Chocolate Peppermint Patties

I’ve found these patties at Trish – Mom On Timeout – and it was love at first sight 🙂 On the link you will find the original recipe. I converted the quantities in grams and I replaced corn syrup (which I haven’t found) with glucose syrup, and it worked very well. These chocolate bonbons are delicious, nice flavored and rich. They are perfect, served along with morning coffee or five o’clock tea 🙂

For the vegan version, the dairy butter can be replaced with vegetable butter (coconut butter or cocoa butter would work wonderful).

Ingredients – Chocolate Peppermint Patties

  • 300 g powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of soft butter
  • 2 tablespoons of glucose syrup
  • 1 tablespoon of cold water
  • 1 teaspoon of mint extract
  • a pinch of green food coloring
  • 300 g semisweet chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

Directions – Chocolate Peppermint Patties

Mix well half of sugar with butter, water, glucose syrup, mint extract and food coloring. Add rest of sugar and homogenize. Knead mixture until it’s no longer sticky (add 1-2 tablespoons of powdered sugar if necessary). Wrap the paste in a plastic foil and put it into the fridge for about 1-2 hours (or into the freezer for 30 minutes).

Cover a tray with aluminum foil and sprinkle powdered sugar. Take the mint paste from the fridge, form equally dimensioned patties and put them over the aluminum foil in the tray. Then freeze all for about 30 minutes.

Melt the chocolate along with vegetable oil and homogenize. Take the tray off the freezer and dip each patty into the melted chocolate. Tap off the excess and let the patties set over a wire rack until the chocolate gets firm; then the bonbons can be served.

These Chocolate Peppermint Patties must be kept in a cool dry place until serving.
