These chips are wonderful. They are tasty, sweet, crunchy and beautiful, and that’s why they can be an excellent decoration for a dessert. There are other ways to prepare apple chips but the one that I present you today is the easiest and fastest. Pear chips can be prepared using the same recipe. Apple (or pear) chips can decorate classy, elegant, outstanding desserts.
Ingredients Caramelized Apple Chips
- 1 apple (medium size)
- 200 g sugar
- 200 ml water
- 50 ml lemon juice (fresh squeezed)
Directions Caramelized Apple Chips
Preheat the oven at 175 Celsius. Cut the apple into thin slices (the easy way is using the mandolin, but you can also use a very sharp knife).
Put sugar, water and lemon juice into a pot and bring to a boil. When the syrup begins to boil, add the apple slices. Continue boiling, stirring often, for 10-15 minutes, until apple slices begin to become translucent.
Place a wire rack into a baking tray and grease it using a paper napkin soaked with some oil. Remove apple slices from the syrup and place them onto the wire rack, in a single layer. Transfer all the ensemble into the preheated oven for about 15 minutes (or until the apple chips are lightly browned). Meanwhile prepare another tray and line it with waxed paper (which must also be greased with some oil).
When the chips are ready, remove the pan from the oven. Take the apple chips from the wire rack and place them onto the wax paper, in a single layer. They will cool and harden in a few minutes.
